Litigation Outfit Responds to Gov. Kelly’s Press Conference, County Health Orders

April 30 –  After Gov. Laura Kelly’s announcement on the evening of April 30, Kansas Justice Institute sent a letter to all local health officers in Kansas.

KJI has been actively involved with public health orders in Osage Countyraised questions about Sec. Norman’s mention of GPS data, and written in the Topeka Capital-Journal about protecting constitutional rights during a pandemic.

The full letter sent to the Kansas counties is here.

Sam MacRoberts, litigation director for KJI, “The COVID-19 pandemic, while serious, does not justify a potential local health order that violates the United States or Kansas Constitutions. It is just as important now, perhaps more so, to follow the rule of law.”
